Dear Senator Yee: Who’s Guilty of “Self-Interest” Now?

He lambasted the gaming industry's "self-interest" and now look at him.

Those people probably feel vindicated today.

According to an NBC Bay Area report, Democratic California state senator Leland Yee has been arrested on bribery and public corruption charges. The FBI nabbed the politician during a sting operation earlier this morning.

Yee represents District 8, which coincidentally includes big game studios in the San Francisco and San Mateo County areas. He has been an outspoken anti-game activist for a while; gamers might remember that he submitted a violent game law to the US Supreme Court (which was thankfully struck down in 2011).

After the tragic Sandy Hook school shooting, Yee said:

“Gamers have got to just quiet down. Gamers have no credibility in this argument. This is all about their lust for violence and the industry’s lust for money. This is a billion-dollar industry. This is about their self-interest.”

Oh, this is just too perfect. Corruption? Bribery? You do those things out of self-interest; it certainly has nothing to do with “serving the people,” as politicians are supposed to do. After reading that quote, I also remember thinking: “Gamers don’t have any credibility, but you do? You’ve got to be kidding me.”

I should’ve known that someone so blatantly ignorant makes his way in the world by cutting corners. I mean, he clearly never did an ounce of research concerning the video game market, and he still brought a law before the freakin’ Supreme Court.

Lastly, Yee decried the game industry for making billions (and obviously, the Democrat “money is the root of all evil” maxim kicked in), saying it’s all about a “lust for money” and nothing else. Yeah? And the investigation is going to find that all Yee’s shady actions had nothing to do with money, right?

… right? Yeah, sorry, I just gotta laugh at this.
