The Hardcore Victories Sweepstakes has ended as 1,000 players have reached Level 100 on Hardcore Mode in Diablo 4. Announced prior to launch, the contest was for the first 1,000 people to hit 100 and to tweet about it with a photo of their character and the Tempered Champion title. Now, a mere three weeks after launch, the tallies are in, and all 1,000 spots have been claimed.
Players raced to Level 100 on Hardcore Mode for the chance to have their Battle.net tag added to a Statue of Lilith that’ll grace the halls of Blizzard’s Irvine, CA., campus. For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Hardcore Mode requires a deathless run to reach max level, as you’ll have to start a whole new character if you die. It also has harder mobs and bosses but features the Scroll of Escape in case you bite off more than you can chew with an enemy.
Just this past week, during the Diablo 4 Campfire Chat with the community, it was announced there were roughly 700 spots left. It seems that was motivation enough for the community, as the Diablo 4 team announced via Twitter and a follow up blog on June 21 that all spots had been claimed. The blog post will be updated with a list of all winners’ Battle.net names as soon as all the entries are double-checked.
Some in the community are still quite upset at how the contest was handled, citing character boosting and disconnection issues as some of the reasons the Hardcore Victories contest was unfair to all players. Others are calling for another contest to be held where only solo leveling to level 100 should be allowed, showcasing the true fans of the series. Myself, I just enjoyed the game and watched those struggle in Hardcore from the sidelines. We’ll see how the Diablo team handles these complaints and if a new contest may occur in future seasons.
