When it comes to Fallout 4, there’s been more news about the lack of news than anything else. Fans of the post-apocalyptic RPG, desperate for any sort of announcement, have even gone as far as creating their own fake websites and registering trademarks in hopes that Bethesda would finally spill the beans.
Despite their best efforts, Bethesda Game Director Todd Howard recently told Rock, Paper, Shotgun that it’s “going to be a while” before we get any sort of official announcement.
“We don’t [have a timeframe], but I think it’s going to be a while… We’ve gotten fairly used to all the questions and curiosity over the years. Everyone wants information. Right now, we’re just trying to figure out which of our ideas are going to stick and finding an appropriate time to talk about it.”
It’s not surprising that Howard isn’t revealing too much. With a game this high-profile, Bethesda is going to want to make their reveal as big of a deal as possible. However depending on Howard’s definition of “a while” this could rule out the possibility of a Fallout 4 announcement at this year’s PAX East or E3.
I think it’s safe to say that Fallout 4 is definitely happening; it’s just a matter of when. I wouldn’t be surprised if we had to wait til 2015 to hear anything on the subject, but the optimist in me hopes that Howard is just trying to throw us off.
