Last week, I was contacted by Dan Dimitrescu, of Killhouse Games to take a look at his current project. A tactical, squad based shooter akin to the old SWAT and Rainbow Six titles, Doorkickers mixes things up with a top-down perspective. I’ve logged a few hours in this very early alpha build, and it’s got a great premise.

The player takes control of a small team of SWAT officers, and proceeds to enter various structures to take down the bad guys insides. The buildings are extremely dark, giving your troops very limited sight range. This can be easily countered by using flash grenades for a brief glimpse inside of a room, as well as stunning anyone inside.

Combat is a simple affair; your officers firing at anyone within their range and line of sight. It doesn’t take much to go down though, so caution is key. I can’t tell you the number of times I’d poke my head in too far for a peek only to lose someone. Frustrating, but something you have to learn to avoid or deal with in these kind of games.

I’ll have more on the game as time progresses, for now I’m just fiddling around, trying to complete it. I’m definitely looking forward to a lot of the features that are to be added at a later date. Arresting prisoners and rescuing hostages is always fun, and adds a bit more challenge for subsequent playthroughs.
