Dota 2 Adds Guild Feature Preparing for Full Release

You might not think you want to join a guild in Dota 2, but you do. Trust me.

Valve added a new guild feature to Dota 2 last in last week’s patch, giving players an easier way to keep track of their friends list and more easily join up to play with friends. This may not have been the most requested new feature, but it certainly makes getting together with players you can trust a bit easier.

The current guild system allows for members to create parties for members to join and provides a chat channel to members to chat in-game.

The guild system is ideal for teams with more than five members looking to organize games, people looking to only play certain types of games or compositions, or those just looking to keep in better touch with their in-game friends.

As it stands, a single person can only be a member of four guilds at a time. Steam user Wyk wrote a fantastic guide on the guild function and making the most of it. You can check it out on the Steam Community page.

This may not be the most exciting addition to Dota 2, but it is one of the more useful to come up over the game’s extended beta period. Hopefully this isn’t the only fleshed-out feature they roll out over the coming months before the game’s full release.
