Guild Launch’s Dragon Slayer Awards are upon us.
This is the only awards show for gaming communities, decided by the gaming community. These awards are voted on by you, the gaming public, not industry experts or by corporate sponsorships.

The voting is open until Sept. 2nd (To allow DragonCon attendees to vote from the convention floor).
Notable Kickstarter of the Year
There are nine categories including Most Notable Kickstarter of the Year. Crowdfunding has been a huge boon to the independent game developer as well as benefited the gaming community a whole with new levels of diversity and risk-taking creativity.
Hundreds have been launched. Some are successful, but few truly reach astronomical levels of success. This year, seven of those projects were nominated.
Nominee: HEX
Cryptozic Entertainment may or may not be a familiar name to you. But, you may have seen or played some of their many successful products.
- World of Warcraft Trading Card Game
- Walking Dead: The Board Game and The Card Game
- Penny Arcade: Gamers vs Evil
- The Big Bang Theory Party Game
- Batman: Arkham City Escape
Plus, numerous movie and television trading card sets.
Hex: Shards of Fate is an entirely new beast. This is the first combination of digital trading card game and MMO, meaning that you will undertake quests and join social groups and guilds while gathering your cards and building your decks.
Because the Trading Cards are digital, upgrades can be added and displayed right on the card itself as shown above.
Like an MMO, the player can travel a large world as they gather their decks to locate new challenges and find unique items as well as new threats. It will include PvE and AI opponents as well as PvP deck battles.
Kickstarter
Hex is Cryptozic’s first Kickstarter project and was fairly ambitious to request $300,000 in pledges. Within thirty days, Hex raised over $2 million from nearly eighteen thousand backers. Some four-thousand of those backers pledged between $125 and $500.
The results were so successful in fact, that Cryptozic added numerous stretch goals as rewards to their sponsors, including:
- A VIP Program
- Crafting Support
- AI Deck Building Tool
- Playback Support
- Motion Comic Intro
- Tablet Support
- A HEX Novel
- Codex Cryptozic Web Guide
With its groundbreaking concept, amazing graphics and innovative and intuitive interface, HEX has earned its nomination for Notable Kickstarter of the Year.
Also, if you haven’t watched the video linked above, please do. It’s hilarious. Cory Jones, the head of Creative Development is featured and he shows just how far Cryptozic is willing to go to make Hex a reality.
