Guild Launch, the web hosting platform expressly focused on gamers, gaming guilds, gaming news, and the gaming community, is hosting the 2013 Dragon Slayer Awards.
These awards are voted on by the gaming public at large with a focus on the gaming community, not industry experts or corporate sponsorships.
Voting is ongoing at Guild Launch’s website until Sept. 2nd, as Guild Launch will be allowing attendees of this year’s DragonCon to vote from the convention floor.
Notable Kickstarter Of the Year Category
One category is for the Kickstarter project of the year. Granted, a lot of independent developers have turned to crowd funding to make their projects a reality, the nominees are those that not only succeeded in funding but also garnered a lot of attention from the gaming community as a whole.
Nominee: Shroud of the Avatar
Lord British aka Richard Garriott created the highly successful and ground-breaking Ultima game series beginning in 1981 for the Apple II, Commodore 64, and Atari and early model PCs, etc.
Ultima set the early standard by which generations of RPGs were compared to.
Flash forward thirty-two years and nearly two-dozen game titles later, Lord British goes back to his fantasy RPG roots with a massive and immersive game that even features an off-line solo play mode.
That background, combined with a team whose resumes include games like the Wing Commander series, City of Heroes, The Sims, Guitar Hero, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Wizard 101, and even potential competitor Guild Wars, creates a strong case for what Portalarium is capable of creating.
Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues will also feature a classless system where the player is free to build their persona they way they feel, not based on career or race restrictions.
All of the MMORPG features players have come to expect are here, including crafting, pets, housing, questing, and full social interaction (guilds, PvP, etc.) in a lushly immersive world.
Kickstarter Victory
Shroud of the Avatar was presented to the crowd funding public on March 8th. Inside the 30 day window, Portalarium not only met it’s $1,000,000 goal, but nearly DOUBLED it.
Over 22,000 backers signed up, a majority pledging as high as $80.00 to help make Lord Richard’s newest fantasy a reality. Hundred’s pledged much higher for a chance to have a title and property in the game world.
While Garriot has set some high marks for Shroud to hit, with his resume and now the funds to back it up – the gaming community has definitely taken notice and Shroud of the Avatar has definitely earned it’s nomination for the Dragon Slayer’s Notable Kickstarter of the Year.
