DUST 514 Open Beta Announced, F2P Interstellar Warzones Soon Accessible to All PS3 Owners

EVE Online developers announce the Open Beta stage of their new PS3 shooter DUST 514, the planetary warfare component of their EVE Universe. Open Beta begins on 22 January.

After a triumphant week which saw CCP Games celebrating the successful integration of their flagship space MMO EVE Online and their upcoming PS3 shooter DUST 514, they have announced the Open Beta of the Free-to-Play PlayStation®3 title.

The unification of the two titles is indeed an industry first. In a press release dated 14 January, CCP Games stated;

“By uniting DUST 514 and EVE Online on the same single-shard server, CCP has accomplished something unprecedented in videogame history: a single persistent online universe of incredible depth and scale that bridges the PC and console platforms in real time. Furthermore, this marks the first time two games from different genres, a space combat simulator and a first-person shooter, have been linked together into one, massive online experience.”

The DUST 514 Open Beta will allow hordes of new mercenary soldiers to flood the battlefields of the temperate planets in EVE Online‘s Factional Warfare zones, influencing the epic interstellar struggle that rages between the “Empyrean” pilots in the heavens above. By winning battles, taking and holding territorial districts and fulfilling contracts, DUST 514 players will play a key part in a vast player-driven conflict involving thousands of combatants across hundreds of star systems and two games platforms.

Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP, said “The launch of the DUST 514 Open Beta is another step towards our long-term vision for CCP and EVE. But this is just the beginning. As we have done with EVE Online, in the coming weeks, and for years to come, we will continually improve upon and add to the DUST 514 experience, as well as add deeper integration between the two games and their communities.”

The DUST 514 Open Beta will commence on 22 January 2013.
