A new video was posted for the new Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn class called the Arcanist. Final Fantasy XIV producer, Naoki Yoshida, revealed in a letter that explains the Arcanist classexpansion possibilities, Ishguard (the unreachable city-state in FF14), Free Companies (guilds), and other FF monsters and battles. Yoshida was asked to explain in more detail to English speaking fans because of the previous Japanese language portion of this letter.

  • The Arcanist class splits into two different jobs – Summoner and Scholar. Each job has a pet–Arcanists have a Carbuncle, Summoners have an avatar of a given Primal, and Scholars have a fairy. Arcanists and Summoners can change the types of pets they have, while Scholars have just the one fairy, but they will be able to change that fairy’s mode. Of course, this gives off the idea that there will be more classes and jobs added to the game, maybe even before the first expansion releases.
  • The far off city-state of Ishguard will not be reachable even after the release because various quests and events that teach players about that area must be explored first.
  • Secondly, Free Companies work a lot like the guild system in WoW. You purchase them as land from a kingdom and have a variety of permissions and roles that Free Company leaders can assign.
  • Yoshida talked about three different ways that players can pursue in breeding chocobos. Armor for chocobos will be craftable and magitek armor comes out of crafting too.
  • Plus, skirmish-type battles will letplayers fight against classic Final Fantasy monsters in various battleground types. Players will earn tokens by completing these battles as well as dungeons.
  • The fishing system will be different from FFXI in that you can’t just sell a bunch of fish for loads of gold anymore.
  • Finally, an old man is the current emperor and plays an important role in the storyline.

That covers most of all the details in the letter from Yoshida. Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn officially releases on August 28, 2013. Stay tuned for more details about FF XIV!
