The long-awaited RollerCoaster Tycoon World opened for Steam Early Access this week. The game has been in testing since the beginning of the year, and the team behind the game at Atari feels confident that, with all the feedback they have been getting from testing, the game is ready for the wider community to play.
The development of RollerCoaster Tycoon World hasn’t all been plain sailing. Originally the game was supposed to be released in December 2015, but was pushed back to 2016 due to some significant issues highlighted by beta testers. These include addressing the fact that coasters were coming off the tracks too often, the option to use pre-defined track rather than building from scratch, and problems with fence building and placement.
The Early Access version of the game has everything you need to start playing. For the first time in the series, RollerCoaster Tycoon World has different game modes. You can either just play the Sandbox mode or you can take on the challenges of Campaign or Scenario modes. Other features the Early Access includes are:
- 10 different types of coasters,
- 30+ various flat rides,
- 4 different park themes. You can choose from sci-fi, western, generic, and adventure,
- a full simulation but this is currently not balanced,
- park operations,
- many stalls, shops, bathrooms and info booths to flesh out your park,
- and a terrain editor.
Sadly the game is already receiving a lot of negative reviews on Steam as people compare it to the older RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 and the new Planet Coaster by Frontier Games. You can decide for yourself but buying the Early Access game for $50 (£30) on Steam.
