With the wealth of games at this year’s E3 it’s easy for some to be revealed under the radar, one of them being Strongold Crusader 2, the real-time strategy and city builder sequel to Stronghold: Crusader from Firefly Studios.
The Stronghold Crusader 2 beta was revealed behind closed doors at this year’s E3, with a few months of developement still left in the development process, according to a news post on the game’s website. The release date is set for Sept. 2.
Stronghold Crusader 2 returns to the medieval Middle East with new visuals, AI characters, units, and a 3D engine, but Firefly Studios said the game is “true to its roots.” The original Stronghold: Crusader from 2002 had a focus on skirmish gameplay, and a skirmish mode will also be a feature in the upcoming sequel.
Other features include eight-player multiplayer, co-op gameplay, a series of skirmish campaigns, and a map editor and free build mode where players can experiment with castle designs without worrying about being attacked.
Stronghold Crusader 2 will be available in stores and online through Steam upon release.
