It seems that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is on a slow rise. Today Square Enix announced that the total number of registered accounts is now over 2 million. Square Enix did not reveal how many of those accounts registered were on the PlayStation 4.
Last October Famitsu reported that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn had reached over 1.5 million users. In February, the PS4 trailer for A Realm Reborn revealed that there were over 1.8 million users traveling through the realm of Eorzea. As the game was just released on a new system, that number is sure to keep climbing.
A slow climb is still a climb
The original Final Fantasy XIV was originally released in September of 2010. The game was poorly received. Rather than completely scrap the game, Square Enix choose instead to reboot it, under the name Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The game has received mostly positive reviews, and has been regarded as a smart move on Square Enix’s account.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn released on PC and PS3 in August 2013. The game just recently released on the PS4 on April 14, with early access on the 11th. Owners of the PS3 version were able to upgrade to the PS4 version for free. The game is cross-platform, allowing PC players to play with the console owners. The game also supports Remote Play on the PS4 version through the PlayStation Vita.
So far, Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn has impressed me. I have played quite a few MMORPGs, and none of them have impressed me the way that A Realm Reborn has. I can see myself playing this game for a while. Final Fantasy has always been one of my all time favorite series, and I am glad that Square Enix went back to the drawing board on this one and fixed what needed fixing. As Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn continues to climb, especially now that it is on the PS4, I hope that Square Enix continues to give us a reason to keep on playing.
