It’s been a big week for Final Fantasy 7 fans, with three announcements from Square Enix continuing the classic’s legacy into the modern market. One of the releases revealed was Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier, the publisher’s first battle royale. The news comes fresh on the heels of the news surrounding the PS5 upgrade and Intergrade version of FF7 Remake.
Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier will be set a full 30 years before the events of Final Fantasy 7 and will feature a mixture of PvP and PvE content, with a number of enemies from the classic JRPG making appearances.
Notably, The First Solider will be taking place at the time Shinra established SOLDIER, with players seeming to compete to become the first SOLDIER in the program.
Seeing as those that come from the SOLDIER program within the game’s lore, characters duking it out in The First Soldier will have to have proficiency in more than just firearms. The trailer shows characters using guns, melee weapons such as swords, magic spells Final Fantasy fans should be well-familiar with, and even summons such as Ifrit in the heat of combat.
This is all an interesting dive into the Final Fantasy 7 universe to be sure, and how rounds will play out with the mixture between PvP and PvE is something not seen in many battle royale titles to date.
Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier is scheduled to release sometime this year, but so far Square Enix have only announced the title for Android and iOS. An official PC release of this would be perfect. Square Enix, please?
