In the most recent Active Time Report that aired on June 4th 2015, Final Fantasy XV Director Hajime Tabata and Marketing Manager Aiko Ofuji released big news on the upcoming changes to FFXV. In the video, they both discuss the Episode Duscae 2.0 patch that is set to be released on June 9th, 2014.
This isn’t your average patch, guys. They didn’t make some minor tweaks and call it a day. The patch will revamp and revitalize the existing demo and essentially transform it into a completely different experience. Take a second and skip to 57:50 in the video below to see the trailer for the Episode Duscae 2.0 patch.
At first glance, the trailer has noticeable enhanced graphics. This is explained further in 48:08 of the video during the inside look of the Luminiosity 1.5 engine. The artists and graphic designers go in depth and explain the graphic choices made to enhance the game. FFXV has been said to be a fantasy based on a reality, so the graphics show realistic elements within this fantasy world. Watching the trailer really made me feel as if I was watching a Western RPG being designed, the design choices are very unique for Square Enix.
Looking a bit more into the trailer, you can now fight the Catoblepas! They are the giant dinosaur-esque creatures that lounge by the water. They were unable to participate in battle in the orginal demo, but that’s about to change. Battling these massive beasts are a challenge I’m definitely ready to take on.
The trailer further previews more action moves that will be available during battle. The interactions within your party seem to be increased as well. Now that’s what I’m talking about! I would love some more one on one bro time. The dynamic of this group is too special not to explore.
And wait, what’s that? Did I just see the party get split up into pairs? That will be an interesting venture, that’s for sure. There are so many small hints in this trailer, I guess we’ll find out which ones are accurate when the patch gets released.
This trailer looks jampacked with changes! The dev team has been working on this patch since March, and it looks like the wait will be worth it. June 9th can’t come soon enough! My body is ready, is yours?
