Follow the Paper Trail in inFAMOUS: Second Son

Second Son's Paper Trail leads to a compelling, unique side-story.
This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

Amid the D.U.P. blasting action of inFAMOUS: Second Son lies a mystery. Mission markers and side quests litter the game map, but a fourth of the way into the game a new symbol appears: It’s a little origami.

Travelling to the location reveals a new Conduit, known only as Celia. Donning a creepy bunny mask a-la Donnie Darko (so deep, right?) Celia leads you down a paper rabbit hole that ties to a weird and awesome ARG.

Paper Trail

In the weeks leading up to inFAMOUS: Second Son‘s release, Sucker Punch launched a viral campaign with the Paper Trail website. The website was framed as a Conduit support site, urging visitors to stop calling them “Bio-Terrorists,” and even creating a quiz to see if I am a Conduit (I am, guys, water powers and stuff).

Completing the mini-games and quizzes on the site unlocked bonus karma for the game, and I assumed that’s where it ended. Then I met Celia the paper Conduit.

Follow the White Rabbit, Neo

Following Celia leads Delsin to a murder. With you as his guide, Delsin steals some evidence from the scene. He is then prompted to go to another origami symbol on the map.

**Oh hello nightmares forever – good to see you.**

Lo and behold, the Paper Trail website updates, allowing me to sift through the evidence on my computer, leading me to the next step in the side-story.

Overtime

When Second Son released, it came with a day one patch that added “19 hours of additional content.” Little did I know these 19 hours come in the form of Paper Trail’s mystery. This is an interesting addition to inFAMOUS; one we don’t see too often in games. The ARG is blending on-console gameplay with some interesting sleuthing done in the real world.

I encourage anyone who has inFAMOUS: Second Son and an internet connection to create an account on the Paper Trail website, and enjoy some free, compelling, unique content.

Sound off in the comments down below and let me know what you think of the Paper Trail Content! Is it a welcome addition, or a tactless gimmick?
