The inaugural international video game music symposium, Game Music Connect, is less than two weeks away, taking place at the Purcell Room inside the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Hall at the Southbank Centre, London UK. Speakers at the symposium will include video game music composers such as; Martin O’Donnel, composer of music for legendary series Halo; Jesper Kydwho’s scores include Borderlands and Assassin’s Creed; Jason Graves, the maestro behind Dead Space and Tomb Raider, and several time BAFTA-winning composer James Hannigan, of Dead Space 3, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, and Beasts & Bumpkins.

The schedule for the event will include discussions and talks about various aspects of music and how they relate to video games. Topics will include things like how to take inspiration from film music to create an immersive atmosphere in games, and tackling the problem how to seamlessly involve interactive sound to respond to players’ actions.

Despite being the first symposium of its kind, it has already gathered much interest from both the music and video gaming world. Sony has already announced itself as an official sponsorship partner for the event, and popular UK classical music radio station, Classic FM, has promoted the event to its listeners.

Although the programme appears very much geared towards music industry creatives, those with an interest in video game music will no doubt also be enthralled at the opportunity to hear some of their favourite composers illuminate some of the finer aspects of their craft.

Game Music Connect will take place on September 9th 2013, at the Purcell Room, Southbank Centre, London UK. To register for the Early Bird Registration offer, and to find out more about Game Music Connect, visit www.gamemusicconnect.com.
