Outside of my love for gaming, I am a total music head. One of my favorite genres is Rock Opera. I was excited to learn that these two loves are going to meet in a game newly under development by independent developing company led by Ivo van Dijk. The development team is currently in pre-production and is raising funds on Indiegogo.
According to the Indigogo page, “Karmaflow is a third person puzzle/platform adventure, and the world’s first rock opera video game!” The game is set to be about keeping the balance between good and bad as the Karmakeeper. The music is set to change based off the choices that you make in the game.
The development team is working not only with the Metropole Orchestra, but a cast of rock and metal musicians, including Marc Hudson and Henning Base. More musicians are to be announced as development progresses. Metropole Orchestra has played with acts such as Basement Jaxx and Within Temptation (one of my personal favorites). Marc Hudson is the lead singer for Dragonforce. Henning Basse has been lead singer of several groups including Mettalium and Firewind.
They have various levels of funding with great rewards at Indiegogo. If they surpass their initial goal, they have a list of other goals to follow past the initial goal, including built in Oculus Rift support. Their goal to launch Karmaflow is Q4 of 2014 (approximately in November according to the Indiegogo reward levels). I’ll be watching to see how Karmaflow grows over the next year. It will be available on computer, both for Windows and Mac.
