Recently announced by 343 Studios is the new arcade shooter Halo: Spartan Assault, which is slated for release in July for all Windows 8 devices.
It is a top down, twin stick shooter that gives you a god’s eye view of the battlefield as you shoot your way across.
Although it appears in many ways similar to Halo Wars, especially with the bird’s eye view, this is an arcade shooter rather than a strategy game. You control a single Spartan instead of squads or vehicles, and the action is much more fast paced. Think Geometry Wars.
Since it will be available on all Windows 8 devices, that means we can play the game anywhere. Tablets, laptops, even phones are all viable platforms to play the new Halo: Spartan Assault game.
Although I am getting tired of this franchise getting milked by every available form of media, I am very excited for the prospects of such a smooth and action packed mobile game. From the demos in the announcement trailer, we can see intense firefights and destruction that only a Spartan could survive.
The new game offers 25 levels of story missions, which take place between Halo 3 & 4 during the Spartan Ops program. You will be able to use classic controls, or use the touch screen capabilities of your device. It will also be able to transfer XP and unlocks to existing Halo 4 games, showing more of the integration Microsoft has been trying to create for gamers.
The only caveat is there will be micro-transactions for in game power ups, weapons, and armors. Hopefully, this feature won’t detract from what seems like an awesome game.
The game will be available in the Windows Store in July for $6.99.
