Hellpoint mostly flew under the radar when it released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One in summer 2020. A Soulslike action RPG set in a strange sci-fi futurescape with demanding mechanics and a nebulous story, it elicited mixed reactions from critics and genre fans alike. Despite that, it’s found a niche audience that’s dedicated to uncovering its deep mysteries and unfurling its dark secrets.
Now, developer Cradle Games and publisher tinyBuild are bringing it to Nintendo Switch and Google Stadia. Digital versions are currently available on both platforms, while physical standard and collector’s editions on Switch and PS4 are also up for purchase. All versions retail for $34.99.
These versions of Hellpoint are essentially the same as those found on PC, PS4, and Xbox One for all intents and purposes. However, one of the coolest features of Hellpoint, its implementation of local split-screen co op, isn’t available on the Switch. That version currently only supports online co op, and there’s no word if Cradle Games plans to implement local play in the future.
We enjoyed our time with Hellpoint last year, saying that even though it’s flawed and relies on its inspiration a bit too much, it gets a lot of things right, including its combat, setting, and story.
Since we took a look at it, the game has received a number of patches, hotfixes, and updates. TinyBuild has even added in a PvP mode, called Hellpoint Arena, which lets players eviscerate each other for items and armor.
Those playing the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S via backwards compatibility can take advantage of the now-normal next-gen graphics and performance enhancements of faster load times and 4K 60fps. Dedicated PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S ports are set to launch sometime later this year.
