The 2016 version of IO Interactive’s stealth action game, Hitman, is having an all-new 2nd season. Confirmed by Hakan Abrak, executive director of the project at IO Interactive, during an interview in Paris Game Week 2016.
According to Mr. Abrak, Hitman will continue after the release of last episode, that takes place in Hokkaido, with additional content formed as Season 2. New locations and missions will be added to the base game, while using the same launcher from original version.
However, the Season 1 maps can still receive new free content like Elusive Targets and Escalation Missions. Players will also be able to bring their previous unlocks to use in upcoming season and onwards. Moreover, locations that were previously completed, will be revisited with a new location/mission available — hinting that unlocks in Season 2 will be able to be brought into any Season 1 locale.
Hitman (2016) is the first entry in the series to implement an episodic distribution model, with 6 episodes released nearly every month — from March 2016 to October of the same year (except June and July). Every episode in the game features a sandbox-like map which allows players to explore, assassinate, and complete the missions as they choose. Players still take control of Agent 47, an assassin and iconic character of the series, travelling to international locations and eliminating contracted targets. The game’s story takes place 7 years after events of the previous entry, Hitman: Absolution.
