Injustice Spotlight on Ares and Killer Frost

Ares and Killer Frost may be confirmed, but how do they play?

The two latest, and possibly last, characters for Injustice: Gods Among Us finally have their actual gameplay video.  So how exactly do Ares and Killer Frost look in game?

God of War

Ares has a trickier fighting style than I would have expected from the god of war.  He has a quick teleport that he can use to appear in front of or behind his opponent, for starters.  It appears to normally have a set range but shows to be capable of covering the entire battlefield with either a different button combination or an empowerment.

The other tricky ability I did not expect on Ares is the ability to become invisible.  Mortal Kombat fans will remember this from Reptile, and it looks to have the same issues of the player having the same difficulty of seeing himself as his opponent has.  While this does not diminish the possible confusion for the opponent, it makes it a move requiring a great deal of skill to actually make use of.  With that said, having seen someone use Reptile’s invisibility in tournament play, the effects can be incredible when done right.

More expected moves from Ares include summoning swords for projectiles, axes for anti-air attacks and throws, and some short no-nonsense combos.  His finisher sees him slice his target onto a battlefield where he calls a huge barrage of arrows down upon them before growing to immense height and slamming them through the ground, back to the arena.

She’s as Cold as Ice

Killer Frost looks to be a mid-speed fighter with some control effects to help her keep her foe off-balance.  She has a fairly standard projectile, but also possesses a disable that shows an ability to hit enemies at any range.  She also has a close range freezing technique extremely reminiscent of Sub Zero’s signature ability, but it is not a technique she uses often.  She does it twice, once as a close-range grab and a second time as a counter, so it is a more limited technique than Sub Zero’s ice clones.

Frost shows an ability shared with several other characters in Injustice by empowering her attacks.  It creates a frost effect on her opponent whenever she hits, implying extra damage and possibly a further effect not as immediately obvious.  Her combos look to strike a balance between speed and power, being fairly balanced in the distance and length of combos, with the distance of individual hits varying quite widely based on whether the given attack summons an ice weapon or uses her bare hands.

The finisher she employs sees her impale her target to immobilize them, slam a pair of spiked ice walls into them from both sides, then drop a third wall of ice spikes on them from above.

Both look like worth additions to the roster of characters for Injustice.  The wait is almost over!
