Better pick up another job or start saving up some cash now. A brand new Half-Life game has finally been announced 12 years after the last entry. This time around, it’s going to be a PC VR experience.
Titled Half-Life: Alyx, a full reveal for the new title is set to drop on Thursday. The news comes after a surprise announcement from a new Valve Twitter account started a social media frenzy.
The game’s name appears to be a clear reference to Alyx Vance, indicating the upcoming title is likely to take place between the first and second games. In other words, you don’t have to worry that Valve might suddenly learn how to count to 3.
It’s worth noting that this announcement comes from a Twitter account established in June. Though it carries a “verified” Twitter badge, the account only has the one, single tweet about Half-Life: Alyx as of this writing. In the age of the internet, it has led some to speculate the early reveal may have been a hoax.
Although it hasn’t been posted on any of the official Steam pages, and it doesn’t have a Steam game page, the retweets by Valve connected Twitter users and a leaked interview with more details (that was since hastily removed) all point to this reveal being legit.
Either way, we’ll find out for sure come Thursday, November 21 at 1 p.m. EDT.
The fact that the game is coming from Valve and the reveal specifically shows “Steam VR” in its promo image seems to indicate PSVR players are out of luck on this one. As of now, it appears Half-Life: Alyx will only launch on PC.
We want to hear from you. Are you excited to play Half-Life: Alyx, and are you willing to upgrade your PC and buy a VR rig to do so? Sound off in the comments below, and let us know what you hope happens in the new game!
