Nintendo recently released a new Iwata Asks, a fairly regular piece where Satoru Iwata, President and CEO of Nintendo, talks to developers in the Nintendo umbrella. In this interview, Iwata talks to Tetsuya Takashi, the director of Monolith Soft, the company behind Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii (and several other titles).

In the interview, they go into detail about the formation of the company, Monolith Soft, Takahasi’s inspirations for creating the game, and various other games he has worked on, and the history of Monolith Soft as a company.

Iwata and Takahasi eventually move on to talk about the upcoming New 3DS port of Xenoblade Chronicles, which is being made by Monster Games, a Minnesota-based company that is also responsible for the highly praised Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. Both Iwata and Takahasi were skeptical about the game being ported, but after seeing it in action, Takahasi said:

“It’s not at all inferior to the Wii version.”

The full interview is available here. It’s well worth a read if you are at all interested in the design process or the life and times of a successful game developer. Not to mention, you get to hear Takahasi geek out about Star Wars and Star Trek.
