Nintendo has partnered with Mercedes-Benz for a little cross-promotional action around Mario Kart 8, which comes to Wii U Worldwide on May 30th. The deal will bring a Mercedes GLA kart racer body into the game as downloadable content, though the add-on is only confirmed for Japan at this time. Perhaps not forever though.
The DLC will reportedly be a free download, and there’s some sign that a GLA tournament might be planned for the fall of 2014. While the DLC may or may not ever leave Japan, a commercial by Mercedes-Benz Japan announcing the partnership is already making the rounds on the Internet.
This is something that needs to happen more often, it is exactly the type of advertizing that Nintendo has lacked, certainly in the UK. Maybe they have wised up to the fact that these sort of DLC’s and promotions get noticed. It may even help shift more games, and more to the point consoles.
