Did you enjoy thatgamecompany’s Flower or Journey? It seems that the studio is hard at work on their next title, and have raised $7 million to fund the project.
Funding their next project
The game remains unannounced, but the company claimed in a statement on their website that the funds for the game came from venture capital firm Capital Today, as well as a team of other investors. thatgamecompany says that these investors “share our vision in making meaningful interactive experiences that inspire, connect, and emotionally touch the hearts of players around the world.”
The post also states that “our studio has entered the next phase of development on our upcoming project.” The money that thatgamecompany has raised will help “our studio is able to scale up development efforts to focus on making the best game possible in the same spirit as flOw, Flower, and Journey.” The studio will “also begin laying the infrastructure to self-publish, market, and distribute on our own terms for this next project and beyond.”
Like other titles from thatgamecompany, their next project will be “an emotionally engaging experience centered around human connections for players of all ages and backgrounds.” The studio is eager to give more information about the project, but not until the it is further into development.
I am glad to hear that thatgamecompany is working on a new title.
I hope that the funding they have received will allow them to create the best game that they can. I really enjoyed Flower and Journey, and wish that more developers would take a note from thatgamecompany to create games that are such a surreal experience.
Hopefully thatgamecompany’s new project will continue their trend of creating games that give an experience unlike anything else I have ever played. Their games are so relaxing, and are just beautiful. I look forward to thatgamecompany’s next title, and hope they show what they are up to very soon.
