In an industry where many developers have begun to shy away from the PC market, Valve stands its ground as a PC friendly company. Not only do they put a lot of polish into their releases, but they also openly support the modding communities that form around their games. This is evident in the new Expanded Mutation System coming out for Left 4 Dead 2.
Mutations is an existing system that creates new game play modes. The Expanded Mutation System will allow modders to have much more freedom in their creation with a “vastly improved scripting system.” They will be able to “create deep custom experiences” on both existing and newly created maps.
Valve’s games have a very long lifespan. Counter-Strike 1.6 still has quite the following. It wouldn’t be any shock to see Left 4 Dead 2 still be played 10 years down the line either, especially when Valve gives its fan base so many tools to create new content with.
