Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth is the New Name of Like a Dragon 8

Ichiban's adventures will continue abroad in Like A Dargon: Infinite Wealth

The trailer for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth indicates that the next mainline Yakuza game (to use the retired name of the franchise many fans still hang onto) will take a bold — and broad — new direction. And yes, while it wasn’t immediately clear from what was shown at Summer Game Fest 2023, this game is the game previously known as Like a Dragon 8, the direct follow-up to Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth was given a release date of Early 2024 on Xbox consoles and Windows. We anticipate, based on the series history, that the game will also be coming to PlaysStation 5.

Fans of Ryu Ga Gotoku’s previous games in the series will recognize Like a Dragon protagonist Ichiban Kasuga as he washes up naked on the beach. In the trademark series’ humor we see a confused Ichiban stumble around naked until a woman cries out in English. That’s right, somehow the bimbo has washed up on American shores. Whether this is Like A Dragon Hawaii or California (or even Jersey), is yet to be confirmed by SEGA.

Which is all to say this new trailer for the next Like a Dragon game doesn’t show us anything at all, while also making us intrigued beyond belief. Ichiban say all that can be said at the end of the day in the final moments of the trailer as he exclaims “What the Hell’s going on?” Yeah, Ichiban, we agree.

Fans of the franchise are eating good this Summer Game Fest, as we also got a new trailer and release date for Like a Dragon: The Man Who Erased his Name at this week’s proceedings.
