Mafia Trilogy Revealed as Definitive Editions Appear, Then Disappear

2K announces a family reunion with the Mafia Trilogy, though two members seem to have gone temporarily rogue.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Following a trio of vague tweets from a few days ago, 2K has finally confirmed that the cult-hit Mafia trilogy is being re-done for the current generation. The developer and publisher shared a somewhat cryptic announcement trailer for an upcoming Mafia Trilogy announcement. (Yes, a reveal trailer for an impending reveal).

That trailer can be seen above.

However, things get a bit murkier as sometime after the release of the announcement trailer, two Microsoft Store listings appeared: one for Mafia 2: Definitive Edition, which had the release date of May 19, and one for Mafia: Definitive Edition, which had a release date of August 28.

There’s no word yet on Mafia 3, but there’s probably good reason for that. The Microsoft Store listings that revealed the above release dates were taken down between the time Eurogamer originally spotted them and the time of writing this article.

Either way, we still know Mafia: Definitive Edition is being rebuilt completely from the ground up. It’s more than just a spit ‘n shine, and it has story expansions. But anything other than that — like how much new content or what altered mechanics are involved — will probably be announced May 19.

That’s when 2K teased more information would come in its original announcement today, prior to those accidental postings on the Microsoft store.

And presumably, that’s when we’ll hear about Mafia 3 as well.

The original story is over on Eurogamer. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more Mafia Trilogy news as it develops.
