Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes has met its share of controversy recently. When Ground Zeroes was revealed to have a short campaign, some gamers had their doubts. When a $30 price tag was revealed, many gamers had even more distress, as they did not see a 2 hour game being worth the price tag. Now, there is another factor causing chaff for Ground Zeroes: a speed run showing the game being completed in minutes.
Eurogamer has published a video showing that Ground Zeroes is able to be completed within 10 minutes. The speedrunner shows exactly how to do it by skipping all of the side missions and cut scenes. Even for a game with a campaign as short as Ground Zeroes, a 10 minute speed run seems a little extreme. I have never heard of open world games, or any full length game, being completed in such a short time.
Ground Zeroes released today to mixed reviews. While some do criticise the game for having such a short campaign, others praised the game for having a high replay rate due to the non-linear gameplay and multiple ways to tackle missions. I see Ground Zeroes as not just a prologue setting up the story for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, but also as a preview for what is to come. With Ground Zeroes, we get to sample the open world, the replayable missions, the new gameplay, and the mature themes that Hideo Kojima will be introducing in the story. I really am hoping that The Phantom Pain will be everything that we expect from the Metal Gear Solid franchise, and another great game in Hideo Kojima’s library.
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes released today. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has of yet has no release date. The Phantom Pain will be much, much larger than Ground Zeroes.
