Today, PC gamers were ecstatic to discover that they would not have to wait to play Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain two weeks after it comes out on Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, and Playstation 4. Instead, MGSV will be released on September 1st, 2015 on Steam. This news comes as a surprise as Konami has given no announcement of this recent change. I personally only discovered this because my elated friend checked the game’s store page and began spamming my phone with messages about how MGSV will be released alongside consoles.
This is good news for PC gamers all around. While most of us have the patience to wait an extra two weeks for a game that we want to play, the internet presents the issue of potentially being spoiled anywhere and everywhere. As a dedicated fan of the series, I was definitely contemplating pre-ordering it for my PS4 for this very reason. However, it looks like my patience and restraint – as well as everyone else’s – has paid off.
The only thing that PC gamers need be cautious about regarding this news involves a previous multi-platform game: Batman: Arkham Knight. The console port of that game was a catastrophe, and it left many fans of the Arkham series who played those games on PC disappointed.
However, last year the teaser that acts as an opening for The Phantom Pain, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes had a very stable release. As such, I think it’s safe to say that PC gamers can stay hyped for what looks like Hideo Kojima’s magnum opus.
