Netflix has seen an incredible boom of popularity and sales in recent times, seemingly staying one step ahead of its competitors at every turn. Much of their recent success can be attributed to productions like House of Cards (a personal favorite of mine) and Orange is the New Black, two Netflix original series only available on the streaming service’s venue. Microsoft has taken a similar approach to the Xbox.
The company has just announced that their first original series, Every Street United, is set to release on Saturday, June 14th. Hoping to create a buzz for their original content, and in turn their Xbox consoles, with the Netflix esque strategy will work well with their first show’s focus: soccer. With the hugely popular World Cup 2014 just getting underway, it’s the perfect time to release related content to the event.
Two of soccer’s biggest names, Thierry Henry and Edgar Davids (the same player who inspired the Striker Lucian skin in League of Legends), are scouring the Earth in search of the eight best raw, talented soccer players. They will earn:
the chance to prove their skills to Rio – and to the World. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them, and your ticket to experience the ultimate street soccer showdown.
Microsoft has noted that this is most certainly not the only production in the works, and that non-soccer fans will have a chance to enjoy some other original series’ to be released at a later date. These shows will be available on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, Windows Phone, as well as online.
