Kenji Inafune has announced that Mighty No. 9 (Mn9) will be released on June 21 for North America. A worldwide release will follow on June 24. The announcement also notes that title’s release on the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS will be at a later date.
Developed by both Comcept and Inti Creates, Mn9 was announced via Kickstarter and was successfully funded in September 2013. Additional goals were added such as a fully voiced dialogue and a DLC stage. Afterwards, release dates provided to backers had changed multiple times. DeepSilver was eventually announced as a publisher to assist with the retail release of Mn9.
Mn9 is inspired by the Mega Man series that Infaune helped create. The game stars Beck, the latest of the Mighty Numbers combat androids. An unknown virus corrupts his comrades and all other mechanical life – turning them against humans. Beck is called upon by his creator Dr. White, to right their wrongs.
The franchise has expanded over the years. In 2014, it was revealed that an animated series is in development by Digital Frontier. In 2015, Comcept announced that they are working with Legendary Digital to create a live-action film.
Backers and fans will be able to experience a new action platform title with Mighty No. 9 releasing in June.
