Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 Reloaded is upon us. Here are the patch notes.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is back with a vengeance. New maps, new modes, new weapons, and a truckload of balance and bug fixes across multiplayer and Warzone. Here are MW3 and Warzone Season 1 Reloaded patch notes today.

Overall, I’m really happy with the updates in MW3 and Warzone Season 1 Reloaded. Many of the weapons that needed help got buffs, some unwarranted nerfs were mildly reverted, and there’s tons of new content to enjoy (provided you still play MW3). It’ll be interesting to see if the new weapons follow the old pattern of being busted for the first month and then getting nerfed into the ground.

As for what to expect, there are some serious additions in the Reloaded patch today, starting with a brand new 6v6 Map called Rio. It’s a medium-sized affair set in a coastal town. Rio looks to add some most fast-paced (but not too fast) gameplay to MW3 outside of the classic maps. Hopefully, it plays better than Greece and is quite a bit less chaotic than Meat, though I do love Meat 24/7 for the sheer insanity of it.

There are also three new modes. Headquarters returns to Call of Duty, offering a dynamic attack and defend mode to an already stacked selection. Team Gunfight upscales the small-team mode to 6v6 but keeps the random and chaotic nature at Gunfight’s heart. Lastly, Infected returns, and this is one I’ve been waiting for, as there’s nothing competitive about it.

Perhaps the big one is the long-awaited arrival of Ranked Play in the MW3 patch today. For the sweats out there looking to truly test themselves against others like them, ranked play looks to challenge you in new and important ways. Map and weapon restrictions are in, strict skill matchmaking is in play, and there are some juicy rewards awaiting those who can climb the highest.

We’re also graced with a new in-game event with today’s Reloaded update. With the arrival of two more Operator skins from The Boys streaming show coming to MW3 — A-Train and Firecracker — comes a new in-game event: Super Siege, a powered-up twist on Kill Confirmed. Players can pick up doses of Temp-V to get superpowers like Heat Vision for a limited time. There are also several challenges related to playing, with rewards along with them.

Zombies gets a new Warlord. A new mercenary warlord, Dokkaebi, now haunts the skyscraper in Zaravan City. Guarded by turrets, Wheelson killstreaks, and plenty of more traditional defenses, she’s bound to be a tough addition to the EZ.

Warzone gets bigger, too. Players of the battle royale mode get more meat to chew on. first in the Champion’s Quest, which requires you to win 30 matches in a season or five in a row. Doing so grants a token denoting you’re on the quest and ups the intensity of the mode. There will be a Steal feature coming that’s liable to ruffle a few feathers, but not for a while. There were also tons of quality of life features, bug fixes, balance updates, and map polish added in Season 1 Reloaded.

NEW MODES

Headquarters

  • Secure the Headquarters objective and hold the position as long as possible to accrue points. Dig in tight, as respawns are disabled for the defending team. The objective rotates around the map throughout the match, so be ready to change your position on the fly.

Team Gunfight

  • Experience Gunfight on a larger scale. In this version, players compete in 6v6 across standard Multiplayer maps. As with traditional Gunfight, all players will receive the same randomized Loadout at the start of each round. This Loadout changes throughout the match. Adapt to what you’re given and wipe out the competition.

Infected

  • Begin the match with one player randomly assigned as the starting infected. The infected player’s goal is to eliminate and transform all the other players into infected Operators who then join their side, while the remaining survivors must use their best skills and strategies to keep the infected at bay.

EVENTS

The Boys are back, and an all-new mode arrives in Modern Warfare III Multiplayer with them: Supe Siege is here.

Compete in a new Supe’d Up version of Kill Confirmed inspired by the hit TV series The Boys. In this twist on the classic mode, fallen Operators drop doses of Temp V, giving temporary power boosts like Heat Vision to those who swoop in to collect them.

Prove that you belong with the Supes by completing six challenges in The Boys: Supe Siege Event Challenge. The challenges are as follows:

  • Get one Operator Heat Vision elimination in The Boys mode (Reward: Calling Card).
  • Deactivate 20 pieces of Equipment using DDoS (Reward: Emblem).
  • Get four Operator eliminations using the MTZ-762 (Reward: Battle Pass Tier Skip).
  • Get two Operator eliminations in a single life with the Overkill Vest equipped, five times (Reward: Large Decal).
  • Get 15 Operator Akimbo eliminations (Reward: Weapon Charm).
  • Get seven Operator eliminations using Lethal Equipment (Reward: Double XP Token).

Mastery Reward: Complete all six challenges to earn “The Boys Special” LMG Weapon Blueprint featuring four attachments, equipped with a whopping 150-round drum and incendiary ammunition for aggressive suppressive fire.

MWIII Ranked Play launches in Season 1 Reloaded and will be available to all players who have reached Level 55. 

LAUNCH PREPARATIONS

  • Season 1 Start Time: Multiplayer Ranked Play will not be available immediately after the Season 1 Reloaded update.

  • Launch Matchmaking: During the Ranked Play launch period, Skill Division Matchmaking restrictions will be relaxed, allowing players who climb into higher Skill Divisions faster than the rest of the population to find matches.
    • Skill Division matchmaking will continue to put high Skill Division players in matches appropriate for their skill. As more players reach higher Divisions, we will begin tightening our matchmaking parameters.
    • Pre-made parties are still subject to the outlined Party SR Restrictions. Please find these restrictions in the Competitive Integrity Features section below.

SR (SKILL RATING) & DIVISION OVERVIEW

  • Test yourself against your peers and track that progress with a visible SR (Skill Rating) that determines your place across 8 Skill Divisions.
  • All players begin our first Competitive Season in Bronze I with 0 SR.
  • Players increase their SR by winning matches and lose SR whenever they lose matches. 
  • Both individual and team performance will impact how much SR you gain or lose per match. In higher Skill Divisions, team performance has a bigger impact on SR gained or lost so that all winning playstyles are more consistently rewarded.
  • Players can progress through eight Skill Divisions by reaching SR milestones:
    • Bronze – Starting Division
    • Silver – 900 SR 
    • Gold – 2,100 SR 
    • Platinum – 3,600 SR 
    • Diamond – 5,400 SR 
    • Crimson – 7,500 SR 
    • Iridescent – 10,000 SR 
    • Top 250 – 10,000+ SR
  • Division Tiers: All Divisions except for Iridescent have 3 Tiers – Tier I, Tier II & Tier III. Climb into higher Tiers as you advance your way through each Division. 
  • Show Off Your Skill: It’s easy to see which Division someone is in in MWII Ranked Play. Your entire Rank Icon will change color and material depending on your current Skill Division. Your current Tier is also prominently shown in the center of your Rank icon.
  • End of Season Skill Setback: At the end of each Season, your ending Skill Division and Skill Division Tier will determine where you start the following season:
    • Bronze through Crimson I Players are set back three (3) Tiers below where they finished in the previous season.
      • Example: A Player ending Season 1 in Gold III will begin Season 2 in Silver III.
    • Players Crimson II and above will start Season 2 in Diamond I.
      • The highest starting position each Season is Diamond I.

Top 250 Leaderboard & Division

  • The Top 250 Division returns, ranking the top 250 Ranked Play players in the world on an in-game Leaderboard that all players can view starting Day 1 of each season from within the Multiplayer Ranked Play lobby.
    • Players will qualify for the Top 250 and appear on the Leaderboard as they surpass 10,000+ SR. 
    • The top 250 players with the highest SR above 10,000 will remain on the board and compete for 1st place over the remainder of the Season.
  • Play like the Pros, against the Pros: Top 250 Leaderboard will display CDL Team Affiliations and Profiles for current CDL Professional players and coaches. Keep track of your favorite players and teams and see how they stack up against the Ranked Play competition. 
  • Ultimate Bragging Rights: In addition to new Rank and Seasonal Rewards in Modern Warfare 3, the #1 Ranked Play player will receive a unique, one-of-a-kind Calling Card and Emblem at the end of each Season.

RANKS & REWARDS OVERVIEW

  • MWIII Multiplayer Ranked Play offers a variety of valuable rewards available to players at launch and Season after Season.
  • Unlocked Rewards can be used in Modern Warfare III and Warzone. Unlock what the mode has to offer to show off your Rank and Skill wherever you play.

    • Separate from the player’s SR and Skill Division is Rank. Rank persists across Seasons to celebrate the player’s lifetime win total across their Ranked Play career. 
    • All players start at Rank 1 and can progress to Rank 50.
    • Players increase their Rank by winning matches to earn Stars. Each win grants one (1) Star. Win enough matches and you’ll earn enough Stars to reach the next Rank. 
    • Every 5 Ranks players will progress their Rank icon and unlock a set of Rank rewards unique to that milestone along with a Calling Card that represents the player’s achieved Rank:

        • Gold – Iridescent: Earn the applicable ‘Gold Competitor’, ‘Platinum Competitor’, ‘Diamond Competitor’, ‘Crimson Competitor’, or ‘Iridescent Competitor’ Skin based on your highest Skill Division reached over the course of the Season. 
        • Top 250: Unlock the ‘Top 250 Competitor’ Skin by finishing a Season in the Top 250 Skill Division. Players must be in the Division at the end of the Season to qualify for this reward.
  • Seasonal Division Rewards
    • Each Ranked Play Season will have a unique set of Division Rewards awarded at the end of the Season to celebrate the player’s highest Skill Division reached that Season.

COMPETITIVE INTEGRITY FEATURES

  • Penalties & Suspensions: Players who disconnect or quit matches will receive SR penalties as well as temporary suspensions, with escalating penalties for repeat offenders. 
  • SR Forgiveness: If a matchmade player disconnects or quits in the middle of the match, all team members outside of that player’s party will not lose ANY SR.
    • It is still possible to earn SR if players can overcome their disadvantage, but a loss at a numerical disadvantage will not yield SR loss for players outside of the leaving player’s party.
  • Match Cancel: If a player quits or disconnects before the start of a match, the match will be canceled and will not count. The remaining players will be returned to the main menu.
  • Professional Conduct Only: Friendly Fire is enabled in Ranked Play per CDL rules. Repeated Friendly Fire will result in players being kicked from games and receiving penalties and suspensions.
  • Demotion Protection: After advancing to a higher Skill Division, players will be granted temporary Demotion Protection and will not lose any SR within the first three games in the new Division. Following that initial protection, if players were to lose enough SR to be demoted, they will first be dropped to the minimum threshold of their current Skill Division instead of being demoted. Losing their next match will result in a demotion.
    • Demotion Protection is also applied for the player’s first 3 games of each Ranked Play Season. 
  • Party SR Restrictions: To ensure competitive fairness and balance of matches in higher Skill Divisions, players in certain Divisions can only party up with players around their current SR. The player with the highest Skill Division in the party determines which Party SR Restrictions are used:
    • Bronze – Platinum: Can party up without any restrictions
    • Diamond: Can party within 2 Skill Divisions
    • Iridescent (Including Top 250) & Crimson: Can party with players within 1 Skill Division

ADDITIONAL SOCIAL FEATURES

  • Hot Streaks: Win 3 Ranked Play games in a row over a short period of time to earn Victory Streak Flames that appear behind your Rank Icon in the lobby and in-game. Extend your win streak to progress the flames. Victory Streak Flames expire when you lose or after 72 hours without playing a Ranked Play match. Go on a roll and the competition will know the heat is coming. (Stay Spicy!)
  • Social Profile: Rank Play icons will be added to your Social profile to identify your Ranked Play Skill Division and Rank anywhere your profile is viewed across Modern Warfare III and Warzone.

  • Night Vision Gulag New Variant
    • Players who enter the NV Gulag will be given night vision goggles when they enter the arena.
    • Players will utilize the same list of weapon loadouts as the normal gulag.
    • All existing Gulag Public Events, like “Go Again” and “Locked & Loaded”, also have a chance to occur in the NV Gulag.
    • The NV Gulag appears at random and is a rare and special occurrence.

The NV Gulag is one of the new additions to the overall Gulag experience for Warzone, complimenting the new Public Events direction. With this new entry, we are adding a Gulag experience that manifests changes to the visuals and gameplay. The NV Gulag brings opportunities for new stories and new ways of approaching the “fight” to return to the Warzone, where it’s no longer just based on who gets a visual on the other player first but who has the better positioning and the ability to disappear – a critical gameplay element in any Battle Royale.   • Champion’s Quest
    • Champion’s Quest makes its debut in Urzikstan with some new tricks up its sleeve to test the very best players in the Warzone.
    • New steps to acquire each element will push you to your limit, and keep the action hot and spicy, just the way we like it.
    • To earn Champion’s Quest tokens: Win 30 games total within a season, or 5 consecutive matches, whichever comes first!
      • Only one token can be held at a time. 
    • The previously mentioned “Steal” mechanic will arrive in a later season, details on how this works will be released alongside. Needless to say, we’re eager to see who the first victors are with this new experience. !
  • Deployable Buy Stations
    • Loot underneath a Deployed Buystation will be removed to prevent overlap and difficulties interacting with the device. The radius of this removal is slightly larger than the device itself.
  • Black Sites
    • We’ve updated the spawn behavior of Black Sites so that they’re more focused towards the center of a circle.
    • By proxy, this should fix an issue where Black Sites would shut down too fast by being in the Gas earlier than intended.
  • Ziplines
    • Improved the ability to interact and attach to Ziplines. 
    • Changed interaction behavior to allow Players to loot items on the ground near a Zipline.
  • Tracker Grenade
    • Fixed an issue with the Tracker Grenade incorrectly showing up as a Snapshot grenade on the loot card.
  • Underwater Rebreather
    • Fixed an issue with the rebreather that would make using it more difficult. The item should now have all 4 of its charges available from the start.
  • Vehicle Respawn
    • Vehicles will now respawn after being destroyed.
  • Covert Exfil and Weapon Case Update
    • Stay tuned for further details on the previously announced Covert Exfil and Weapon Case features, set for release in future.

PERKS

  • E.O.D. 
    • E.O.D. will now clamp damage to 120, down from 150.
  • Quick Fix
    • Fixed an issue preventing health regeneration to occur after inserting an Armor Plate.

KILLSTREAKS

  • Bomb Drone
    • Increasing the warning range to 14 meters, up from 6 meters.

UI/UX

  • Altitude Arrow Improvements Quality of Life
    • We’ve made improvements to the way that altitude arrows appear above and below icons on the mini map and tac map to help players better navigate their way towards objectives.

AUDIO

Our audio team has been diligently working on making adjustments to the audio experience in Warzone. In addition to the changes outlined below, we are actively exploring further improvements, with some planned for parachutes in an upcoming season.

  • Audio Occlusion
    • Improvements have been made to audio occlusion on Urzikstan.
  • Plane Audio
    • Adjustments have been made to the audio on the Infil/Exfil airplane.
  • Music Channels
    • Adjusted cinematic music so that it is no longer entirely on gameplay channels, rather than cine.
  • Allied Sounds
    • Reduced the volume of friendly Slides, Jumps and Lands to better distinguish between friendly and enemy behavior.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed an issue that allowed Players to clip through geometry while using a Ziplines or Ascender.
  • Fixed an issue causing a player to get stuck in a loop and preventing them from being revived if they were downed while plating.
  • Fixed an issue preventing equipped Gulag tokens from awarding cash when the Gulag closes.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed Loadout duplication if a player left a match.
  • Fixed an issue preventing Bomb Drones from appearing on the mini map or tac map.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the squad widget from updating correctly when a player leaves.
  • Fixed an issue causing the train and cash drop icons to be missing from the tac map in Urzikstan Resurgence.
  • Fixed an issue where players matchmaking in uneven party sizes would not see each other in the squad widget.
  • Fixed an issue causing player statistics to not track properly if they left a match prior to the end of the Exfil sequence.
  • Fixed an issue causing active players to be kicked out of Plunder matches for wrongly being flagged as AFK.
  • Fixed an issue causing inconsistent behavior when dropping ammo types from inventory.
  • Fixed an issue causing a delay for the loot crate markers to appear after picking up a Scavenger Contract.
  • Fixed an issue with Scavenger caches causing the mission to select cache locations too close to one another.
  • Fixed an issue causing incorrect descriptions to appear for some Perks.
  • Fixed an issue preventing vehicles from respawning in a match.
  • Fixed an issue preventing the maps in the rotation playlist from appearing on the menu.
  • Fixed various issues causing players to encounter dev errors or unspecified client crashes while attempting to play Battle Royale modes.
  • Fixed an issue causing doors on certain buildings to behave erratically.
  • Fixed an issue causing Black Site keys to spawn in unintended modes.
  • Fixed an issue causing Stronghold loot caches to spawn in unintended locations.
  • Fixed an issue preventing Faculty from causing a delay to Cluster Mine and Suppression Mine activation.
  • Fixed an issue preventing players from choosing to stow select items while the Backpack was full.
  • Fixed an issue causing an incorrect number of equipped and reserve Armor Plates to appear while spectating a player.
  • Fixed an issue preventing Elimination Bounty targets from appearing on the Mini Map.
  • Fixed an issue preventing the party leader from joining a match despite the rest of the party successfully doing so.
  • Fixed an issue with Backpack navigation and management while it was full.
  • Fixed an issue causing players to spawn into a match with a loadout different from the one selected in the live lobby.
  • Fixed an issue causing players to be redeployed under the map in Resurgence Modes.
  • Fixed an issue causing some weapon models to disappear while aiming down sights.
  • Fixed an issue with the number of available charges after deploying the Rebreather Field Upgrade.
  • Fixed an issue causing all Voice Chat to be disabled even if the player has it enabled. 
  • Fixed an issue causing squad widget information icons to overlap with the health bar.
  • Fixed an issue that was wrongly awarding players the Pacifist accolade.
  • Fixed an issue allowing players to skip animations while using the Portable Redeploy Drone.
  • Fixed an issue causing Ping markers on the compass at the top of the player screen to appear under the compass text.
  • Fixed an issue allowing the Heartbeat Sensor to be used after the battery is depleted.
  • Fixed an issue with text overlap on the menu for challenges and tokens.
  • Fixed an issue causing the Gas Mask HUD effect to remain on screen after stowing or unequipping the Gas Mask.
  • Fixed an issue that caused players to lose the Gulag match despite successfully using the vertical ascender during overtime.
  • Fixed an issue causing playlist buttons to queue a player for modes other than the intended one.
  • Fixed an issue preventing the countdown sound and text from appearing in the live lobby.
  • Fixed an issue causing a dev error when attempting to rejoin a Private Match.
  • Fixed an issue causing incorrect player levels to appear on Calling Cards after having been eliminated.
  • Fixed an issue causing Field Upgrades to disappear while looted during an active DDOS.
  • Fixed an issue causing missing or incorrect Mode names in the Private Match menu.
  • Fixed several issues causing clipping or improper placement of weapon parts while in an Operator’s hands.
  • Fixed several issues with improper texture or model behavior for various Operators and Vehicles.

  • Fixed an issue causing incorrect or missing text while sending whispers via the social menu.

  • Fixed an issue preventing the progress bar from appearing during a Data Heist Public Event.
  • Fixed an issue causing the menu to perform poorly or occasionally black screen.
  • Fixed an issue that would kick the player back to the main menu while navigating Operator selection.
  • Fixed an issue causing assimilation options to appear on the ping wheel while a player was downed.
  • Fixed an issue causing extended respawn times in the live lobby following multiple deaths.
  • Fixed an issue causing weapon reserve ammunition to appear on the Gunsmith menu.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause unintended behavior during infil if a player was previously tethered to an ascender.
  • Fixed an issue causing Plate Carriers to appear in game as Armor Vests.
