[Root]CatZ vs [PULSE]XionS results in the most obscene game we’ve ever witnessed. Uploaded by a well-know shoutcaster, HuskyStarcraft, this game of Starcraft 2 was one of the first to truly blow me away. CatZ (represented under the alias account TheGunRun) plays Zerg in the red trunks. XionS plays Protoss in the blue trunks.
Warning: if you’ve never watched Starcraft 2 before, you might be a bit confused.
The game starts out passively, both players refusing to be too aggressive. The map, which is massive and easily split down the middle, is well known for having long macro games. If you don’t know, “macro” basically means “the big picture” and usually is synonymous with massive maxed-out armies with full upgrades.
The first half of the game is a stalemate. Both players sit back, expand their bases, and max out their armies. No one gains any foothold against each until… In the middle of a skirmish, CatZ finds a stray Protoss probe lost behind enemy line – and mind controls it to build a Nexus (the basic Protoss town-hall type building).
From here CatZ uses the Nexus to build more probes and start building Protoss tech structures and units. He goes all out. With money in the bank, CatZ is able to research all the Protoss upgrades and make the highest tier units like Tempests, Archons, and High Templar (with Psionic Storm too!)
This is a VERY rare occurrence. In the hundreds of games of Starcraft 2 I’ve watched, I’ve only ever seen this happen in one other professional match.
The result is a mega-army of all the best Zerg and Protoss units that eventually bear down on the unfortunate XionS. The long game ends slowly but decisively because there is just nothing XionS can do against such a powerhouse army. The game get’s so ridiculous that even the caster, Husky, throws his hands up in exasperation. He’s casted over 2,300 games on his youtube channel alone (not to mention streaming or tournaments).
If you’ve got 34 minutes to kill and you like Starcraft 2, you owe it to yourself to WATCH THIS GAME.
