Evil Within is an upcoming game in the survival horror genre. It is scheduled to be released in 2014 for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Shinji Mikami, the director of the game, is well-known in this genre through his involvement in some Resident Evil titles.

In order to stir up some hype about the release of Evil Within, some screenshots from the game were recently made available.

These screenshots are sufficiently terrifying, dark, and gruesome. I would recommend that anyone who is a little (or a lot) squeamish not look at these. They are not for those with weak stomachs.

The first screenshot isn’t so bad. It features a creepy, masked man who is holding spiked weapons in either hand. The protagonist of the story, Detective Sebastian Castellanos, is pointing a rifle at him.

The second one is a little worse, with our hero standing in a room that is covered in blood. What I’m desperately hoping is really just bloody meat hangs from meat hooks and drips on to the floor.

The third screenshot is the worst by far. Bloody corpses hang from the ceiling as a large, terrifying man stands over a table with another corpse on it. He holds a meat clever over his head, and the corpse’s chest is split open, displaying the ribcage.

If these screenshots are anything to go by, Evil Within will definitely be one terrifying game.
