New Far Cry Game? “More on that soon.”

Is a new Far Cry game in the works?
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Recently during an interview with GameSpot’s Martin Gaston, Ubisoft’s senior vice president of marketing and sales Tony Key hinted on some upcoming news for the title. This follows after Ubisoft has received a lot of successs from both Far Cry 3–released November 2012–and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, a 80’s retro spin-off released April this year.

The Far Cry brand has seen many different battles and terrains since its origin in 2004. Its most recent game, Far Cry 3, was set on a tropical island where a young tourist must find and save his captured friends from a modern-day crazed pirate. The game was an open-world FPS, which seems to be something Ubisoft is keeping in their sights.

In fact, Key hinted that he had a keen eye on the open-world genre, and that more and more gamers are looking for something besides a linear style of gameplay. He explained that “…open world can represent the future of, you know, gaming, and that’s where we’re investing huge portions of our resources–because we believe that that is what consumers want.”

On the success of the Far Cry series so far, Key commented:

“We’re totally psyched from [Far Cry 3]. It’s a great brand, and now it’s got the recognition it deserves, so we’re clearly going to make another one: more on that soon.”

Unfortunately, besides a very firm assurance of a future announcement, no other hints or information was given. You know what they say, gamers. Patience is a virtue.

I'm a 29 year old Jersey girl who loves games. I currently work full time, volunteer part time at this awesome non-profit called Amman Imman, and go to school part time. I also train in jiu jitsu. So time isn't quite on my side (unlike that song says). I have been trying unsuccessfully for years to clone myself so I can devote one of me to boring stuff like working and laundry - thus allowing more time for gaming. I'm willing to offer large sums of imaginary money to any who can make this happen.
