A new “Speedrun” record has been broken for Valve’s classic title, Half-Life. A host of avid Half-Life fans all chipped in to do separate segments of the 15 hour length game. They managed to whittle down the gameplay length — in its entirety —  to just 21 minutes of video footage.

Being developed since 2010, the group of 8 players (quadrazid, CRASH FORT, coolkid, pineapple, YaLTeR, Spider-Waffle, FELip) each did different parts, and the quickest were pieced together for the shortest time possible. Here is a very confusing graph of everything they did, in lots and lots of detail.

Here is the video, in all of its glory:

There has been some controversy over what gives this play of the game true ‘legitimacy’ as a world record.

But at least the guys who compiled this themselves have been honest. In the video description, they concede to it being “heavily scripted”,  the most widely used scripts being “jump spam, duck spam, 180º turn for gauss boost and precise use-key actions.”

They also used the “bunny mod pro” mod, which gives the player extra HUD and saving capabilities. This mod also resets the “anti-bunnyhop” patch released in 2001.

It’s certainly an impressive feat; a triumph of skill. But where do you draw the line in regards to mods, add ons and separate takes of the game?

What do you guys think? I know I found it to be an enjoyable watch, to say the least.
