News of the World of Warcraft movie has been long anticipated. Finally, after years of stagnation, something new has been announced. About freakin’ time.

Originally slated as Sam Raimi, a new director has been announced for the WoW film: Duncan Jones. He is famous for previously directing Moon and Source Code. He’s also the son of famous rock musician David Bowie.

Charles Leavitt is going to be the screenplay writer. Leavitt is famous for doing K-PAX and Blood Diamond.

The budget was announced for the film, as well. It is going to be a little above $100 million, meaning they have the budget to make a good film. With this talent behind it, I’m hoping it will be.

I am a bit skeptical to see how these two will treat the franchise. I loved both Moon and K-PAX, but those two movies are pretty far removed from what the World of Warcraft franchise is about. I look forward to what will come of this. At the very worst, hopefully it becomes a “so bad, it’s good” kind of film.
