New Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart Trailer Reveals Rivet

Developer Insomniac has released a new trailer for the upcoming Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart that reveals the name of the game's new character.

Developer Insomniac’s highly anticipated continuation of the Ratchet & Clank series, Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart, has gotten a brand new trailer released in anticipation of a State of Play this Thursday, April 29, 2021.

The trailer for A Rift Apart finally gives fans the name to the mysterious new female lombax, Rivet, and shows off more gameplay from what now seems to be a dual-protagonist story.

The trailer also provides the clearest understanding of the story to date, and the reveal of Rivet’s name also implies a great deal about where the narrative could be heading. It also confirms that Rivet will be a playable character in the game.

The similarity between Ratchet and Rivet’s names could imply that they’re two sides of the same coin, just dimensions apart. The trailer also hints at the introduction of another character doppelganger in Dr. Nefarious, with Emperor Nefarious. The odd one out appears to be Clank, and his dimensional doppelganger could just be a reveal saved for the State of Play or release.

Whatever the case may be, it’s potentially clearer how Insomniac will use the different dimensions from a narrative perspective. It’s also not unsound to suggest that with the history these games have for being not just fun to play but particularly funny as well, the idea of multiple dimensions could open the door for a bevy of Easter Eggs for players to discover.

The State of Play this Thursday, April 29, 2021 is set to be all about Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart, so there’s a chance some of these questions could be answered then. Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart releases on June 11, 2021.
