South Park: Fractured But Whole was another RPG announced at E3, and the sequel to 2014’s The Stick of Truth. Recently, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, South Park writers Trey Parker and Matt Stone revealed that unlike The Stick of Truth, your main character could be female.

In the previous game, you were limited to playing as a male character due to the nature of the story and the characters. The South Park boys and girls do not get along well. Although, there was at least one segment in the game where you did have to dress up as a girl. The reasoning behind the gender lock was a result of how the boys and girls treat each other in the show. This usually involves a lot of swearing, competing against one another, or even fighting.

In the interview, Matt Stone compares the treatment of the the two genders in Fractured But Whole to The Division. In the latter game, being a male or female character didn’t matter at all in the story, and no one was treated differently. Stone wanted to change that for Fractured But Whole, as the characters would definitely have different reactions based on the gender of your character.

The interview also goes on about some changes to gameplay, as well trying to not make the story “too serious” when compared to other superhero films.

South Park: Fractured But Whole is set for release on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on December 5, 2016.
