The Wii U is not selling very well. With stiff competition from both Microsoft and Sony, Nintendo is trailing behind in the home console market. If it wasn’t for its dominance in the handheld gaming space, the legendary game company would be in a world of trouble. Perhaps they still are. In either case, Nintendo needs to do something to try to boost the sales of its console.
But this is not it.
According to the official Nintendo Online store, the company is now selling refurbished Wii U systems for $250.00. Here is the official store description on the site.
“The Wii U Deluxe Set is now available as an Authentic Nintendo Refurbished set only from Nintendo, and it comes with our standard one year warranty. Although it may have minor cosmetic blemishes, it is guaranteed to be fully functional. We think you will find the standards for Authentic Nintendo Refurbished Products are VERY high.”
While it does come with a 1-year warranty, why would anyone buy this? A brand new, not scratched, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker bundle only costs $50.00 more at places like GameStop or Best Buy.
We can argue that this will provide some sort of boost since Nintendo’s refurbished products “are VERY high” in quality and this bundle is less expensive than a new one. However, we’re not sure how appealing this is to the average consumer.
