Only a few weeks apart, Nintendo’s won another patent case.
Secure Axcess, a patent-assertion company filed suit against Nintendo and retailers selling Nintendo products 2 years ago in January. However, just like the ruling a few weeks ago with Quintal Research Group Inc., the case was dismissed and the future for the 3DS and other DS handheld systems was secured.
Devon Pritchard, Nintendo of America’s General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Business Affairs said:
We are very pleased with the court’s rulings and outcome in this case, and will continue to vigorously defend our innovative products against patent lawsuits.
Thankfully, Judge Ricardo Martinez issued a ruling in Nintendo’s favor and in doing so, stated that the Nintendo 3DS XL, 3DS, DSi, and Nintendo DS do not infringe and Secure Axcess were to agree on this ruling. The case was transferred from a Texas court back in January 2013 but was then transferred to Washington, where the case was dismissed leaving Nintendo with another patent win.
However, who’s say that more companies won’t be after Nintendo? It’s happened in the past, and it will most likely happen again. For now, we have Nintendo’s lawyers to thank for the fact we can still enjoy their handhelds and consoles.
