After initially being announced back in March during Sony’s State Of Play live stream, Hello Games has finally revealed the official release date for the Beyond update for No Man’s Sky.
This major overhaul and follow-up to the NEXT patch will include a highly-anticipated VR mode, allowing players to experience the game on PSVR or other PC VR headsets, even while interacting with non-VR players.
The free Beyond update is now due to land August 14 and will include three large updates rolled into one, with a host of new features and tweaks still to be announced.
Hello Games founder Sean Murray commented on the VR experience making its way into No Man’s Sky:
VR support will bring the entire game experience to life in virtual reality. Grab the joystick and thruster to fly your starship over an unexplored alien planet as you peer out of the cockpit at the view below. Reach into your backpack to grab your multitool, touch it to switch to terrain manipulation and carve out intricate shapes with unprecedented control. Play in multiplayer and casually wave to your non-VR friends or fist bump your PS VR [sic] peers.
Anything possible in No Man’s Sky, NEXT or any other update will soon be ready and waiting as an immersive and enriched VR experience. Beyond will be our most ambitious chapter so far, and something we’ve been working ridiculously hard on. We’ll continue to support No Man’s Sky in this way for the foreseeable future.
We look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks. There’s a bunch more to talk about and we can’t wait for you to join us on August 14.
Check out the teaser trailer below and be sure to drop us a comment if this new update will lure you back into the game after its rocky initial launch.
