Payday 2 news, revealed!

Payday the Heist is getting a sequel, to be released for PC, XBOX 360, and PC. Coming this summer!

One of my personal favorite games, Payday the Heist, is getting a Sequel! One of my favorite games from last year, Payday the Heist was a twist on the cops and robbers type of game. Players assumed the role of four criminals, and worked together to achieve objectives, fight off the cops, and get rich. The game played very similarly to the Left 4 Dead titles, except instead of zombie, players fought off armed police officers, and Special Units designed to disrupt, separate, and eliminate the four players.

Changes from the first game

Money has a purpose now

In the original payday, money was collected for it’s own sake, essentially as an experience bar. When your bar filled, you leveled up, and got another neat upgrade from one of the four classes. Overkill says that now money is going to actually be used to purchase upgrades, weapon mods, and other useful tools. Players will also receive drops after a heist is over, which will allow them to make things, including custom masks.

A new class system

Before, players could unlock everything and anything from every single class, and mixed and matched abilities, weapons, and tools. This tended to make classes feel less important, and highlighting only the best stuff still had to offer. Sure, you’d still have people taking doctor’s bags, or sentry guns, but no one really felt like any one specific class. Well, Payday 2 plans to have skill trees, allowing people to pick a main class to pour points into, and and sub trees for little perks and bonuses. They have said there will be an option to respec, but it will cost cash in game, so changing your class will be a serious decision to be made.

Not much other information has been released, although there have been some awesome game play trailers that have been shown off a couple of the missions and game, as well as some the new weapons. I’m super excited for this game, and it will most likely end up being a day one buy for me this summer on PC.
