As of today, December 8th, 2016, a new app is available for Android and iOS allowing users to quickly message their PlayStation friends without the hassle of getting into the standard PlayStation App.
We know that Messages is the most used feature of the PlayStation App, so we created the standalone PlayStation Messages app with a more streamlined design in order to get you into your Messages and communicating with your friends faster than ever before.

The new Messages App will allow players to contact their friends individually by searching through their friends lists (alphabetical or online only). Players can also contact multiple friends at once by messaging in a favorite group.
The App lets users send audio messages as well as text, just like the PlayStation 4. Also included for messaging purposes are stickers and attachment options.
The Messaging App is something that PlayStation has needed for a while. So many players acquired the PlayStation App for nothing but messaging away from the PS4. The new app offers a quicker, simpler style of messaging that’s similar to text messaging which most of us are familiar with.
The app is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store now.
