Later this year Turtle Rock Studios, the creative force behind Left 4 Dead, will be evolving the multiplayer shooter with their new title Evolve. Turtle Rock has recently revealed that they will release their next co-op multiplayer experience on October 21, 2014 and it will be available for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Steam.
Evolve is a 4v1 multiplayer first person shooter. You take control of one of four Hunters roaming around on an alien planet called Shear. The lone player,on the other hand, takes control of a single Monster whose task is to survive against the Hunters.
Now this may sound very one-sided but that is far from the truth. As the player in control of the Monster you start out in a small weakened state. You can, however, kill smaller creatures inhabiting the world to evolve into a much more powerful Monster. To evolve into a stronger Monster you must first go into a cocoon like state which leaves you vulnerable to the Hunters.
And our first contestant is….
Although we have been assured that more are on the way, the only Monster to be revealed so far is the Goliath, as shown by these images from GameInformer. Even in its initial state the Goliath is nothing to take lightly. He stands at roughly 10 feet tall while his last evolved form measures at around 30 feet. The Goliath is going to represent a “well balanced” type of creature with both speed (for his size) and strength.
Now as for our heroes…
Playing as the Hunters you will have a choice between one of four character classes each with their own special abilities. Markov represents the Assault class and comes equipped with a personal shield. Griffin is the man behind the Trapper class. He uses a mobile arena which, when deployed, puts up a dome that neither friend nor foes can pass through for a short time. The Support class is headlined by Hank and he comes with his own cloaking device. Lastly, Val is the team Medic. As the Medic she can give instantaneous health boosts to your friends within a small radius.
Both Hunters and Monsters can also gain various power ups by killing local wildlife. Beware however that the planet Shear will act accordingly and utilize its flora and fauna against you. You will also gain experience and level up so that you can unlock upgrades and skins for both Monsters and Hunters
Evolve is shaping up to be the next, biggest multiplayer craze since Left 4 Dead. GamesRadar.com named the game as one of their “Top 100 Most Anticipated Games of 2014”. Turtle Rock is also giving people a few bonuses for pre ordering. These bonuses include a free DLC character and a Savage Goliath skin. With E3 only a short time away, we can only hope that we will get a much more in-depth look at this awesome looking shooter.
