The next generation of consoles is getting closer by the day, which makes the rumors about them that much more pointed. With PS4’s formal announcement, many of those rumors are getting answers, including the troubling rumors about used game compatibility.
While there is still no formal word from Microsoft about their upcoming console’s ability (or lack thereof) to play previously-played games, Sony has confirmed their own stance on the subject. As Shuhei Yoshida, head of Sony’s Worldwide Studios, stated:

With all the other revelations about the PS4 we got last night, used game compatibility seems a small side note, but it could wind up having a huge effect on the next console race. With PS4 supporting previously-played games, if the next XBox doesn’t, that will be a huge selling point in Sony’s favor.
Still waiting to hear some good news, Microsoft.
