A bit of new information has surfaced on the tech specs of the Playstation 4. The gaming system has recently been approved for FCC registration, which means that it is ok for sale in American markets. The FCC registration brought up some interesting new data on how the PS4 operates.
The main detail here is the temperature at which the PS4 runs. According to the FCC registration, it’s average temperature is between 5 and 35 degrees Celsius. This is way down from the PS3’s average of 45-55 degrees Celsius. This is great news, as overheating was a problem that plagued many early adopters of the PS3, though it’s “Yellow Light of Death” was far less prominent than the Xbox 360’s now-famous “Red Ring of Death.”
The other interesting tidbit is the PS4’s weight. Though we’ve already gotten a pretty decent idea of the size by looking at it, we now know that the PS4 will weigh about 2.8 kg, a little over half of what the gigantic 5.1 kg launch PS3 weighed. It’s also just about half a kilogram larger than the current Slim model PS3. It’s a rather nice thought that we won’t have another monster of a console to make room for on our shelves.
The PS4’s model number according th the FCC registration is CUH-1001A. The registration also comes at an interesting time, as the Playstation 3 was also registered with the FCC in July. The PS3 was released in November, so this current registration seems to put the PS4 on track with the release dates that leaked last month.
