Everything is a rumor now a days. There’s so much mystery no one really has any idea on what is going to happen… but some people have a pretty darn close idea as to what can happen this year. While it’s not for certain… exactly, if the PS4 will be revealed, or even officially announced this year; IGN has a pretty good idea what the specs are. At least that’s what they heard from Kotaku… and that’s at least what Kotaku heard from the mysterious informant SuperDae. Is it just me or does every rumor involving console hardware or software sound like a middle school rumor chain?
Any way, here’s what IGN has to say (about what Kotaku heard from SuperDae during 3rd period before the teacher got mad):
“According to 90 PDF documents reportedly secured by the site [Kotaku.com], the latest PlayStation 4 development kits issued for January 2013 include four dual-core AMD64 “Bulldozer” processors amounting to a total of eight CPU cores, an AMD R10xx GPU, four USB 3.0 ports, two Ethernet connections, a Blu-ray drive, a 160GB HDD, as well as HDMI and optical audio outputs.”
IGN goes on to say that this pretty much fits in with other rumors as well as some dev kit leaks that sprang up not to long ago. There are a few key notes sprinkled into this speculation. Like the ability to have multiple PSN accounts logged into the same console at the same time. Each logged account having local saves on the machine, as well as global internet supported saves (internet save data isn’t mentioned per se, but at this point with current and even planned technology, internet save data is a given).
Now it’s going to be a few months before anything official is actually said. Sony hasn’t confirmed the leaks, or deny them publicly at least, so it appears this rumor of a rumor is going to stay the way it is until March (supposedly, even the reveal dates are rumored). With all this rumor and mystery it kind of makes you wonder if anything is going to happen at all. It is extremely doubtful that Sony won’t unveil a major release/update (like the PS4) and allow all this rumor that they are; at this point of speculation if any of it was too much for Sony to live up to they would make public attempts at denial.
What we can assume for certain is that the PS4 will either be unveiled/launch some time this year and that it will be a noticeable upgrade from the PS3. We can also assume that the rumors will only increase as we near the suspected launch date(s).
