Last week, news arose of a rare Nintendo World Championships cartridge was up for bid on eBay. At initial release, bids were over $9,000. In the end, the winning bid ended up being $99,902. Unfortunately for the seller, all is not moonlight and roses. The winning bidder for this rare game has backed out of the sale claiming the bid itself was a mistake.

Nintendo Life received a statement from the eBay seller. The seller, muresan, stated that he is “not offering the item to other bidders in the auction to see if any of them are honorable individuals.” Muresan is upset at eBay due to the fact that he claims that they are as friendly with buyers as they are with the 100% buyer protection on eBay’s side.

About the Cartridge

There were only 90 of this World Championships cartridge designed. The games included, in shortened form, are:

  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Tetris
  • Rad Racer

The cartridge saw use in the United States in 1990. While the item up for bid was not in mint condition, there were 328 bids on the item.
